Design Lab and Koç University’s Department of Media and Visual Arts has welcomed Dr. Mohammad Obaid, formerly of University of Canterbury’s HITLabNZ and Chalmers University of Technology‘s t2i Interaction Lab.
Dr. Obaid gained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Canterbury with a focus on the area of Facial Expression Representations using Generic Mathematical Models. He published work on a novel idea in representing facial expressions using quadratic deformation models. He gained his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the Computer Science and Software Engineering Department, at the University of Canterbury, in which he gained First Class Honours for his Masters degree. His Masters’ research project focused on the area of Non-Photorealistic Rendering, where he developed an algorithm for Automatic Painterly Rendering applications.
He collaborated and worked with several international research labs/institutes including the Human Centered Multimedia Lab (Augsburg, Germany), CNRS at LTCI, Telecom ParisTech (Paris, France), Australian National University (Canberra, Australia), Institute for Computer Graphics and Vision at the Graz University of Technology (Graz, Austria), and the Digital Media department at the Upper Austria University of Applied Sciences (Hagenberg, Austria).
Dr. Obaid’s current research focus is to investigate the human-agent social behaviours and the human-robot social behaviours. He is collaborating closely with Prof. Elisabeth Andre at the Human Centered Multimedia Lab (Augsburg, Germany).
