A SMART BOTTLE THAT TRACKS USERS’ DAILY WATER INTAKE, AND GIVES EMOTIONAL FEEDBACK TO MOTIVATE WATER CONSUMPTION
Although individuals are aware that water is an irreplaceable resource for human body, due to the rush of everyday life, they may ignore consuming the sufficient amount of water required for their health. This situation provides a great opportunity for designing for behavioral change; that is, encouraging individuals to increase their daily water consumption. Acknowledging this opportunity, this study aimed at developing a smart bottle that can track daily water intake, and that can give emotional feedback to increase water consumption. Daily water consumption is calculated by a liquid level sensor placed between the walls of the bottle. The emotional feedback regarding water consumption is given by a silhouette of a cherry tree. Each time the user drinks water from the the bottle, this silhouette becomes colorful, i.e. the branches turn into brown and the blossoms turn into red. The future plans for this study includes refining the smart bottle prototype along with designing a wearable device that can measure person’s dehydration level.
