SMART COOKING EXPERIENCE WITH PROJECTED INTERFACE FOR HOME USE
Spatial Augmented Reality (SAR) projects virtual information onto user’s real environment by eliminating the need for an external device. The augmentation can be made interactive with the use of depth sensing cameras, especially for indoor usage. Adaptation of SAR into indoor, particularly home use would create a vast area for information and process flow of functions in the home spaces with the use of objects and their surfaces, which is a possible way to elaborate the smart home research. In this regard, we are studying user needs, what and how to display, and how to engage people with these representations in the interactive SAR systems. We started examining Virtual User Interface (VUX), a kitchen appliance combination consisting stove, hood and dishwasher, controlled with a projected interface, developed and produced by Arçelik. We envision improving the existing SAR interface of VUX, and hence cooking experience, by using projection volume with user-centered design methods.
